CJL Diamond Brokers operates differently than traditional jewellery stores. Our role is to help you understand the value of a diamond or gemstone clearly and build a custom engagement ring that aligns with your priorities, not sales targets. At our jewellery store in Red Deer, our focus is entirely on you.

Because our studio is appointment-based, you also receive privacy for consultations, design reviews and ongoing care.

Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments using established methods such as HPHT or CVD. They offer a different value profile while maintaining the visual qualities many couples want.

If you prefer a natural diamond, we focus on selecting stones that perform beautifully in real life, not just on paper. Our guidance prioritizes how a stone looks, sparkles, and wears once set.

Sapphires, emeralds, rubies, moissanite and other gemstones can be used to create deeply personal custom engagement rings. When working with gemstones, we discuss durability, aging, setting style and protective design choices so the ring remains practical for daily wear.

Where available, we recommend stones with documentation from independent grading laboratories. We explain what these reports mean, which details matter most, and where flexibility can create better value.

There is no standard price for custom engagement rings because the centre stone and design choices drive the final cost. In most cases, the centre stone represents the largest portion of the budget. On average, Albertan and Canadian couples spend about $5,000 on wedding jewellery; high-end luxury sets start at about double that amount.

A practical way to approach pricing:

• Set a total budget that feels comfortable
• Decide what matters most (size, sparkle, origin, design or matching set)
• Allocate most of the budget to the centre stone, then design the setting around it

We can also show value “sweet spots” in carat weights and shapes to help you maximize visual impact.

If you want a wedding band that fits properly and complements the engagement ring, it is best to plan both rings together. During the custom design process, we can:

• design the engagement ring to accommodate a straight band, or
• create a contoured band that fits flush against the engagement ring
